My hubby only has an associate’s degree, so not good at all. It’s not even from the list of unis that immigration maintains. Oh well. It sucks. I understand how you are feeling. If I were you, I would choose to move somewhere else since the country is not welcoming at all. Our govt only tries to keep the elite people and is willing to forgo anyone slightly less than elite. So why should we be patrotic?
I am only
responsible for my parents’ well being, not the country’s. Country
doesn’t give a shit, why should we?

Wow this is sad to hear. Now I worry about the future when we finally decide to move back to Singapore. Argh! Damn Singapore! And it's even more sad to hear that they make it so hard even for people who have children! What a nasty country we're in! newdude: Maybe you should seek a lawyer's opinion?

Oops, sorry about mistaking you for a male.

To adapt in a country, we have to be open to other cultures and people. It will be tough in the initial period (it’s the same wherever you move to), but once you get the hang of things, it will be okay. You’ll definitely miss your family, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
I am also moving because of my OH. He will be accepted in Singapore (I think), but we are not about to try it yet.

It’s never easy with regards to immigration. I have looked at US and Australia and both are tough. It takes 6 months to a year for them to process applications.
How about Cali? Even though they have prop 8 now, I’m sure something will work out. At least the Americans are more open towards homosexuality. Or even Australia. At least they recognize same sex couples.
Singapore is…... Singapore. We can never change PAP and their rigid thinking. So better to move elsewhere?

Here is some info on driving in Australia for overseas drivers: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourlicence/...
Regarding accomodation, you can consider sharing with other postgrad or professionals. You can check out the following for accomodation choices:
http://perth.gumtree.com.au/
http://www.realestate.com.au/Also, I see some people posting here for house shares. Check it out: http://www.studyconnect.com/forums/forumdisplay…
Australia uses the same voltage. Just make sure to buy some international plugs. Here is what the Australian socket looks like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_AC_power_….28Australian.2FNew_Zealand_.26_Chinese.2FArgentinian_2.2F3-pin.29
Regarding travelling, you should venture on your own since you have a car. Just get a good map and drive away!
Can’t answer the other questions, so I will leave that for someone else.

PM = private message
Go all the way to the top of the page and click on mailbox. You will see my private message to you.

My orientation is on the 11th. Maybe it’s different because of the school? I’m headed to Business School. What about you?
I’m thinking right after CNY. Wow I didn’t know about the 30kg load. I might try that out instead. Too many things to take there.

That’s great you’re headed there for postgrad too! Yeah at my age, I wouldn’t be too keen on hostel life either. Partying and drinking is just not my cup of tea anymore.
For air tickets, I have been checking out tickets on Qantas and cheapest I have found is $798. I looked at STA and it was $800+ the other day.
Dropping you a PM.

But I guess its sensible of you too to think of not asking your parents to pay for it. So you just gotta tread safely. Go and do the route a few times and you can find out which is the safest route home.
Perfect! Thank you for the advice. Haha it seems drinking is in the white people's culture. :p Well we'll get a car when things are a little more stable, hopefully within a month. Will try out the route a few times in the evenings to make sure too. :)

I’ll be doing postgrad there and it seems that most classes are in the evenings. I’m picking further up North because of family and my bf and me love the newer towns. We dont want to be too near to downtown too. Would love to buy a car but with job uncertainty, it may not be a wise choice right now. Might consider one after bf gets a job there.
I heard that classes are around 5 to 8pm. So I’m thinking I will be near Perth station at around 9pm? It’s near Northbridge so I’m a little worried. But I guess I need to go an experience it to be sure about the safety.
