Personally, after reading that, I have this feeling like a robber after robbing a woman and then tell her "be thankful" I didnt rape you.

agreed. the arrogance and his defensive posture has PAP written all over it.

      that is a rhetorical question.

they will never let up on collecting too much s-11.

let's say if potong pasir runs into problem with monies, they will be ridiculed by these learned scholars for running into a deficit and couldn't manage their money.

town council exists to manage and maintain public properties. their sole job is to do manage this well in the most cost effective manner. not build surpluses to buffer against future expenses as they like to position it. typical bs.

thank goodness for the lehman fiasco, this `rubbish' is now widely strewn all over the estates. the clean-up would be interesting. let's see how much is swept under the carpet.

interestingly, one never would have guessed what happened in wall street will cast a dark shadow on this government, which for a long time has lost sight of what it means to serve the ppl first.

i wonder.. if they left it to rot in a current account, would people accuse them of not "prudently investing the money" ?

town council exist not to maximize their kitty.

what's wrong with putting it in term deposits and let the money simmer while they figure out how to serve the community better?

leave the investing bit to the likes of experts like temasek and GICs. all the intricate lines linked back to the PAP. the problem is the government here collected way too much money from all sources, including the people and they don't know better what to do with it.

if they have too much money, they are probably collecting too much from the everyday folks.

    • here in sgp, there are now shops in hdb sprouting up now selling branded over-runs from $3 - 5.

i bought a bunch of gaps, old navy, nikes apparels for my family for next to nothing.

these are mainly made in singapore, indonesia, vietnam stuff. good quality stuff but admittedly, the selection is limited. the trick is to pop in every 2 weeks as they bring out new stocks.

      better than malaysia.

but my best buy was in portland 2years ago. in a closing down sale, all london fog winter wears were at $10 each. i bought 3 for me and my wife.

if one needs help; and if one is willing, just help unconditionally.

i guess the tutoring market will only thrive if one helps each other.

i think there's enuf share of the pie to go round.

    • 2 TCs have come clean....$12m reduced to ashes.

why dun they just release at one go the total impact?

      $12m is `negligible'?

of cos, there is a good reason behind all this and nobody who wears white will take the rap for this.

this is very disappointing indeed coming from the highly regarded PAP.

correction, us recognize only 194 countries in the world.

but largely i agree that this is storm in a teacup.

I find the Sporean English accent very funny too..how "three" is pronounced "tree", "complete" is "kom-plit", and like rainee I can tell a Sporean overseas just by a sentence of their English. Not going against anybody here..just saying what I've observed. I used to think English-educated Malaysians like myself speak very good English till I started talking to people from India and the UK..if you think Indians have a funny accent, just look at their essays, they are freaking good I tell you, colloquial words and all! The problem with Malaysian and Singaporean English (not much of a difference) is the pronunciation and sentence structure - we're too used to saying it the wrong way till we think it's correct.

it is a myth that all indians have good english. some have excellant english and a fair share of them can be barely understood.

i deal with many of them in the last 10years in my course of work.

just as singapore has its singlish, india has its inglish.

So I agree strongly, malaysians should not come here to work.

for your next experiment, you shld live with ah tiongs, one day, you wake up and find your torso in the kitchen, arm and legs in the toilet bowl.

suddenly you realized that ah nan is not so smelly anymore.

The current understanding is no, at least not strongly enough, imho.

      of cos, why not?

you don't need everyone to be concerned, but enuf to let the gahmen know that we are aware of what's happening and that they do have an accountability to the ppl of singapore.

the problem is this gahmen has been practising an inconsistent administration on being transparent. we are all fed incomplete or selected news.

singaporeans have been taken for a ride for far too long, and thank goodness for technology, information flow are now a lot more open.

i am not denying that singapore has rise to be a pheonix in the region with impressive infrastructure growth and the ppl's well being are better off, but for the riches singaporeans helped contributed to the country and how these riches are now hoarded by a certain family in the name of `protecting our assets', the common ppl still have a very raw deal.

even in the latter, their folly after folly in the handling of the SWF demonstrates that they are the last persons we want to trust our money with.

    • agree the club is too big for him.

my best memory is the goal he scored against chelsea at anfield. good goal.

btw, is he still wearing that prison device on his ankle to track his whereabts? perhaps that thing on his ankle made him uncompetitive.

between reina and dudek, i wld go for reina as #1. prior to his CL heroics, i lost count the the number of goof ups he made. we need a consistent keeper, not a sometime brilliant, sometime erratic one.

dudek would have been a great cover had he not left. we need 2 gd keepers. now, liverpool doesn't have one.

the recent lost to spurs in the league cup demonstrate how far liverpool is from having good cover for reina. god forbid reina is injured, then it could be disastrous.

babel is a great player, but unfortunately he is behind keane and torres. his time will come if he is patient. it is not as if he is not getting play time.

sometimes, when i read the press and arsene's comments, his words are as consistent as arsenal's form right now....

      edit:

      0-2 now...

    • swimming in deep end of the pool is not so obvious as say, climbing out of a window on a 13rd floor.

many are oblivious to the danger of swimming pool so i think this is a valid concern.

(Damn I actually said it!) icon_eek.gif

i dun think you can pin it against PAP here. this is a legacy from the brits. the party leader is the de facto pm. whether they choose a family member to lead the party is another discussion altogether.

Here is a man so unwilling to let go of the reins of power, even after his expiry date in politics is long past.

Why do you think till now new posts are being created? Senior Minister... and of course Minister Mentor! Sounds more like a joke don't you think?

He craves hegemonic domination over Singapore citizens. He wants all there is to offer in riches. From the taxpayers of course. What better way right? Why do you think he's the chairman of the GIC now? Daughter in law boss of Temasek Holdings? Son is PM.. and so on and so forth.

He still wants to be powerful. He still wants to be feared. Remember what he said, if he wasn't feared he was meaningless. He still wants everything. All the way till now. From the day he reluctantly stepped down as PM.. as SM(c'mon!).. He still wants power. That's just how it is. Pure, unadulterated power. He doesn't want to give up any of it. It's a heady feeling.

The only way he relinquishes everything is when he is dead. And that my friends, seems to be taking a hell of a long time to happen.

So there's your answer to why, Poh Ah Pak. There's your answer.

though you articulated it well, i think mr poh is just begging the question.
