Sorry to hear that the food was not up to your expectation but at least you got to come to Melbourne to catch up with family and see a bit of Melbourne.

Please let me know when you next come to Melbourne.  We can meet up together with Rhonda for a meal or something.

      You take care too! icon_wink.gif

Will do... and hope to see you soon...

I like the Vietnamese Pho too....  Every now and then we will travel out of our way to Springvale to have the Pho.  The one I go to has a branch in Preston and Richmond.  So far, I think their pho is the best.

Missy Rhonda told me that you were here for the Singapore Day.  I would have got a chance to meet you if I didn't chicken out at the last minute.  As I am not a Singaporean, Missy Rhonda was going to have me and hubby as guests but she got an email the day before saying that only Singaporeans were given preference.  We weren't sure if that meant she couldn't bring guests so we decided to give it a miss as we didn't want to travel all the way to the city to have our access denied.

Hope you enjoyed your visit in Melbourne.... icon_wink.gif

      Hey HM,

Melbourne was good, just for the food itself and the many good chocolate stores... : )

Singapore Day was a real disappointment for me as the food quality really did not stack up. The queues were so long, I gave up trying to queue for food and some stores sold out early so could not try quite a few things... oh well...

Other than that, it was a good time to catch up with Miss Rhonda and my wife's side of the family...

Maybe we can meet up next time?

      Take care!

However, it still doesn't mean we can't whinge about things being expensive, does it? icon_wink.gif

No wonder, I find that coles or safeway(woolworths in SA) are much more expensive than going to the markets. Just for comparison, I recently purchased some fillet steak from the butchers, it cost me $17.00/kg where going to coles because I went to get milk, I happened to check on pricing, it cost $39.00/kg... wow, big difference. Plus food from the market is supposedly fresher, I think channel 9 or 7 did an expose on the chemical preservatives that coles and the like put in their food to make them last longer and look "fresher"... just my two cents.

But yes, we still like to whinge about things being expensive. I was just in Melb over the weekend past and have to say that fuel is cheaper, especially LPG, it was around the 59cent mark where in SA, the LPG is around 72cents, and so are some other things. Loved the variety of food that one could get and Gedenken, thanks for the heads up about Nobu... was going to try it, but will now give it a miss in favour of your recommendation. smile.png

Anymore recommendations as to good food places in Melb? Anyone know of a good Pho place? I have been to the one in Springvale and it was not bad and they have a branch in Footscray which is better.

If you like asian, has anyone been to the red bean cafe? The nonya fish is not bad and the chilli/salt chicken chop is pretty tasty.  They have curry fish head too, both the curry type and the assam type. Went back to Singapore Chom Chom as I was in the city for a few days and have to say the food standard has dropped since last year.

      Hey Doc4u

It was so much easier in the old days... either you were on or you were not. Its not about being selfish or anything, but being bf and gf impies a commitment to be exclusive, unless she wants an open relationship? So IMHO, I think there is something fishy, especially if she will not answer your questions. I'd say there are other fish in the sea... let the line loose on this one and go fishing again after a suitable time. She is too selfish and not worth it. Her basic character shows already by what she is doing. She does not respect the relationship and she does not treasure what you have.

I can understand having space and going out with other friends in a group, but one on one with a guy... ??? whom she has just met online...?????? what the??????!!!!!!

Call me old fashioned, but there are things that are just not right and she is currently doing something that IS NOT RIGHT. My two cents.

    • actually it really does not matter where one studies... whether one is suited for the global workforce or not all depends on the adaptability of the particular person, I know many people from Adelaide Uni who would make lousy employees.... even in australia, not talking about the global workforce yet.

I have a friend who did not get to uni, but rose to become a very high level manager in Dairy Farm, and only after this did the person get two masters degrees, yet this person over saw many of the company's operations and was involved in many overseas projects too... education means nothing without application and even without education, there is still a way.

    • Zecyan88,

If you are willing to spend sometime on it, you can do the application yourself and save the agents fees. I think app fee now is around $2K? If you are thinking of moving to anywhere else other than SA, you might find it hard as places like VIC, NSW etc are considered "closed".

To ship a container down, you should check around, there are varying prices.

Next question is public or private school. Big difference in school fees, esp with 3.

What kind of life do you want to live here? Job prospects? Will your significant other be working as well?

Initially get to the aus immigration website, look for the class of visa that you will be applying for. Are you skilled? Etc... have a good read through the requirements which are all no the net for you to find if you spend sometime. Then think through a strategy.

Initial cost of moving can be a lot or a little, depends. What do you intend to do in terms of housing? How much do you want to spend? Where do you want to live?

    • When Yahweh took the Israelites out of egypt, what did He tell them to do? When Yeshua was in the temple, what did he over turn and destroy in His anger? Yes Yahweh is a loving Father, yet He is also a jealous God. You shall have no other gods before me. What does that mean to you?

    • when considering a fuel efficient car, its probably best to consider a car with a very fuel efficient petrol engine. Hybrid engines just don't work. Not to be mention about not being green. Remember that most of the figures quoted for fuel consumption are done under ideal conditions, which rarely happen in real life. Have to also evaluate things like, what you need the vehicle for, how many kms you would be doing, do you need lugging space? or is it just you most of the time?

Japanese cars obviously would be more fuel efficient because of light weight etc. But the new BMW efficient dynamics engines are quite good. See new upgraded one series.

With jap cars stick with Honda and Toyota. MHO. No point having a really fuel efficient car that gives lots of mechanical problems. My two cents worth.

Just because a small bunch of idiotic dole-bludgers do take advantage of the welfare system doesn't mean that you should exclude the majority of people who do have proper jobs and pay taxes from the safety net the Government provides for the population.

I assume you have lived in Australia for a while, at least, enough to know that programs like 'A Current Affair' are akin to tabloids like 'The Sun' in UK and 'The New Paper' in Singapore. Just a bunch of overhyped claptrap by the Australian media - always known to blow things out of proportion.

About medical treatment by Medicare. Sure, it can be a big mess. It does seem like a mess right now with all the reports of badly managed hospitals and long waiting lists for medical care. But I think you're missing the point.

Australia provides free and greatly subsidised healthcare for the Aussie population. That is the point.

Here's a simple example. A country may consider prostitution illegal by law, but obviously prostitution still exists. This means that it is recognised by law that it is wrong. So no matter if Ah Hock feels horny and wants to bang a couple of chicks for $20 per head, but doesn't get caught, he is still liable to be arrested and tried under the law.

Just like in Australia. At least people who have been left out in the Medicare system can bring it up to the courts and the justice system because despite how they have been treated/went through they still can seek remedy for the lack of care/responsibility the system owes them.
In Singapore? Oh, you're "lucky" enough to have the Government bestow you with Medisave - you owe them not the other way around. 'Lucky' enough to be able to languish in a 'C' class ward with a drip (pay extra $2 for top up ah.) with 6 other terminally sick patients on 'controlled medication' (because the best and most effective are reserved for the full paying patients in air-conditioned 'A' class wards lucky/smart/rich enough to have private insurance or savings.

That's what happened to a friend's grandma. Died of breast cancer thanks to the questionable care administered by the doctors in her 'C' class ward. It was disgusting to say the least, the level and quality of care, accomodation and treatment she was given just because her family didn't have enough money to pay for full treatment and had to rely on the pathetic excuse of a Medisave the Government in Singapore provides.

About your comment about the Australian Government being like the PAP. Are you seriously kidding me?
At least we can vote for the guy man. In Singapore 'mysterious' things happen and poof, hey, here's your guy for the next 7 years or whensoever they decide one fine day to hold the election. (While sitting in their overstuffed sofas eating kaya roti the big guy decides, gee, I think its a good day to have the election after the 34268762 walkovers were successful)

We can complain about Australia because we love it and want to see positive change. But if we're just earning the wage here and living within the Australian system we reap benefits Singapore could never give us ever in a million years because they value their citizens/PRs and still b|tcing about it then maybe its time to seriously consider if Australia is the right place for us since Singapore is so 'great'.

At least in Singapore the vargarants and lazy people don't tax the system. It is well proven that countries with a welfare system in the end do not do well, just take a look at the USA. Now we all know where Australia is heading. When I speak about such people, I speak from personal experience, not programs like today tonight. Besides you do not need programs like today tonight to highlight the problem, have you ever stood outside a centerlink office?

At least the PAP do something... look at the infrastructure that Singapore has. In Australia, the political parties bitch about so many things that it is a wonder they get things done at all.

My friend recently went for a double bypass... the surgery was fine, but because the hospital was careless, he ended up getting a very bad viral infection of the bone and he is still suffering today, some six months after the operation, and we are talking about someone who has the best medical coverage in an A class type ward. Not some C class ward. So you tell me.

What credible opposition do we have in Singapore to vote for?

christmas marks the birth of the sun god, Yeshua was not born in dec, the closest Yeshua ever got to dec is september/october

passover marks the ressurection of Yeshua, not easter.

firstly, i did not say christmas and easter are pagan religions. i do say JWs do not celebrate it.

2ndly, no where in bible was stated when was JC born. as much as we can estimate is a clear sky with shepards out in the plains. they used hebrew calandar. which equates to roughly the month of nisan as the JWs deduced.

3rd, the romans happen to celebrate the bday of their pagan sun god on 25th dec dated using the gregorian calandar. this could be just a co incidence as they are "consolidating" the bible and christians beliefs.

4th, an exact practice just like easter was also practiced by the paganistic romans.same bunny, same egg thingy.  though the bible made no mention of a bunny with egg was seen or refered to when JC was resurrected, the bunny somehow turn up for the party.

of cuz i would not say christianity is a cult like how christianity branded mormons, jws etc as cults cuz im jus a nobody. and people in power very often will use whatever tools they have to serve their own needs. including using religions..tink osama.

no religion now is perfectly correct. everyone claims God on their side of the field.

      Hey Domon,

it is a pretty well known fact that the 25th of dec is not the birth date of Yeshua. Actually we are told that when Yeshua was born, the shepherds were in the field, this infers that it was not in dec.

You have actually just shot christianity in the foot with your 3rd remark, if the romans consolidate the bible and their belief in the pagan worship of the sun god by calling it the birthdate of Yeshua, then what does that make all of christianity that come after that? Idol worshippers.

Easter was never acknowledged by Yeshua nor was it ever practiced by early believers. Yeshua kept passover not easter, and it is also widely known that easter and passover may differer by about a month. It is just funny that the bunny just turned up. Do you know the history of easter?

That is the whole point of believing in Yeshua, it is not about religion, it is about personal relationship. These are very different.

If christmas and easter are pagan religions, is christianity itself a cult since it has gone away from the core beliefs of the bible?
